Description

The Graduate Union is for graduates. It is a membership association of graduates: 102 years old - established in 1911 by men and women of different nationalities, disciplines, socioeconomic circumstances and ages; with each of founders being interested in continuing - throughout their lifetimes - the feel of being at university by having forums for discussion and learning; now with members all over the world - (and continuing our tradition) - who are from multiple disciplines, all age ranges and life stages and multiple countries and cultures; and who have become members because they graduated from any university in the world - not just The University of Melbourne - and wanted to become part of our internationally influential collegium. It is a residential college for graduates: with 120 residing here per night (about 600 per year); the majority of whom are undertaking masters, PhD (coursework and research) and continuing professional development courses and being aged under 40 years; including also visiting professors, academics and those in the professions undertaking sabbaticals, book writers and visiting researchers and university lecturers; from all across Australia and the world and in every discipline; which is one of just a handful of graduate-only colleges in the world; and who become members of our international collegium on entry to residence and who continue membership throughout their post-residential lives. It is a meeting place for graduates: with about 2, 000 people meeting here each month to eat, socialise, discuss and attend conferences and seminars; and particularly for those who are career age, and who are part of the education, charitable, government and professional representation/development sectors.
